FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I choose a background colour?
Absolutely! I try to work on 100% wool felt but where a particular colour is unavailable in this, we can consider a wool blend felt. I can order in most colours (depending if they will work with the portrait of course.)
I only have a blurry, old photo. Is this okay?
Hhmmmm…probably not. A clear photo makes such a difference. I will be working directly from the photo so please make sure this is an accurate representation! A photo taken in natural light, at eye level and relatively close, works best. If you have a photo that shows their eyes, even better. I think the eyes really are the windows to the soul.
By the way, if you are using a photograph taken by a professional photographer, please check with them that they are happy for it to be used- they will hold the copyright for this photograph.
Do I have to have the picture in a hoop?
Of course not! The choice is yours. I usually make hooped portraits in a 9″ embroidery hoop (bigger for multiple pets or full body portraits). But, I can leave them unhooped on a square or rectangle so you can frame them. This option allows me to work on a thicker 3mm felt- less colour option but a really beautiful material.
Can you frame them for me?
Unfortunately not. But you can upgrade to a 10″ hooped frame at an extra cost. A variety of wood finishes are available.
Do you do gift vouchers?
Absolutely!
Can you use some of my pet's hair?
Yes, it may be possible to incorporate it into the portrait, felting it into the wool. You do not need a lot. When I use a pet’s fur, I would recommend framing it behind glass so as to keep it safe ( and dust free!)
Can I add a card?
Yes! I can order a greetings card for you with your greeting, name(s) on to pop in the parcel. This is a lovely option for a group of friends to sign a card together remotely. There are lots of options available including pet sympathy, birthday, and all the usual occasions.
How do I look after my portrait?
Great question…….As with all artwork, direct sunlight can fade colours due to the UV light, this also applies to wool. Do bear this in mind when hanging.
Also, avoid a damp, mouldy wall ( We have a lot of those here in Cornwall!)
If your picture is hooped and starts looking dusty, never ever hoover! I say this as I did hear of this happening once…..not a good outcome! Try a very soft make up brush or a big blow of breath 🙂
